第一天：翻译开篇 确定重点

新年的脚步近了，考研人的冲刺也开始了。今天是我在哈佛的第一个学期结束后的第一天，外面厚厚的积雪仍在，风也不小，我在路上走的时候帽子被吹飞了几次。去年差不多也是这个时候，我在北京撰写考研英语冲刺30天的系列文章。为了给参加08年考研的朋友提供一些帮助，今年继续撰写考研英语冲刺文章。希望这些文章给大家指点一些复习方向，更希望大家能因此坚持不懈，誓达自己的目标。

今天是冲刺的第一天，我讲英译汉问题，目的是让各位由此知道自己的强弱之处，从而确定复习的重点。英译汉是考研英语中一个较难的部分，不易得高分。究其原因，主要是难句分析、确定词义与逻辑组合等方面不好把握。鉴于此，我将从上述三个方面进行总结。今天以难句为例，说明复习的重点。难句也是阅读部分和完型填空部分的重点，不过英译汉部分更加集中地考查难句，所以以英译汉中的难句为例更能说明问题。一般而言，句子中有三个重点与难点：

1．核心词汇

2．核心词组

3．句子结构

例一，

But the idea that the journalist must understand the law more profoundly than an ordinary citizen rests on an understanding of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media. (2007)

参考译文 新闻记者应比普通公民更加透彻地了解法律，而这种看法是基于他们对新闻媒体业已确立的规约和特殊责任的理解。

此句的重点与难点有：

一、核心词汇

profoundly 透彻地，深刻地

established 已确立的

convention 规约，公约；大会

二、核心词组

rest on 基于，依赖于

三、句子结构

本句的主干是the idea that…rests on an understanding of…，其中idea后面的that引导一个同位语从句that the journalist must understand the law…，说明idea的具体内容，介词结构of the established conventions and special responsibilities of the news media做understanding的定语。

 
 
例二，

Is it true that the American intellectual is rejected and considered of no account in his society? (2006)

参考译文 美国的知识分子在美国社会遭到排斥并被认为无足轻重，这一说法属实吗？

此句的重点与难点有：

一、核心词汇

reject 排斥，拒绝

二、核心词组

of no account 不重要，没有价值（account 重要性，价值）

三、句子结构

本句的主干是Is it true that…，其中it是形式主语，that引导的从句that the American intellectual is rejected and considered of no account…是真正的主语。本句的难点有：一个是被动语态the American intellectual is rejected and considered of no account，可以转换成主动语态Americans reject the American intellectual and consider him of no account；另一个是词组of no account（不重要）的理解。

例三，

While there are almost as many definitions of history as there are historians, modern practice most closely conforms to one that sees history as the attempt to recreate and explain the significant events of the past.(1999)

参考译文 几乎每个历史学家对史学都有自己的界定，但现代史学家的实践最趋向于认为历史学是试图重现过去的重大史实并对其做出解释。

此句的重点与难点有：
