第一部分 英译汉 第四章 考研英译汉常用词及句型的翻译 第二节 常用句型的翻译（上） 一、as作为介词或连词时的翻译及as结构的翻译 as在英语中是一个很活跃的词，当介词讲时，意思是“作为，是”；当连词讲时，可理解为“因为；当……的时候（随着）；尽管；像……一样（正如）”，也可以引导非限制性的定语从句。有时as引导的特殊状语从句可以翻译成定语从句。因此，对于as的翻译必须依上下文而定。 与as搭配的主要结构有： （1）just as：正如 （2）as if/as though：好像 （3）A is to B as C is to D∶A比之于B正如C比之于D。 （4）as…as…：和……一样 （5）as far as someone is concerned：据某人所知；就……而言 （6）not so much…as…：与其说……（还／倒）不如说……；有时也可以改变成not so much…but…，意思不变。 （7）not so much as…：连……都不肯…… 订阅收藏考研英语主观题40分攻略 （8）not so+形容词+but+从句：虽然……但是…… （9）nothing+like（near）as（so）…as…：远远不像……那样 （10）A is not…as well as B：B实施或被实施某种行为，但A没有。 （11）as…so…：像……那样，……也就……；随着……，也就…… （12）as作为关系代词引导的结构，一般位于句首，常见的有： as is well known众所周知 as is often the case情况常常如此 as may be imagined可以想象得出 as often happens这种情况常常发生 as has been said before如前所述 as has been pointed out正如已经指出的 as will be shown in…将在……中指出 （13）as to关于；as for至于；as yet至今仍举例说明如下： 【例1】He was viewed as one of the most prolific writers in the 19th century。 译文：他被认为是19世纪最多产的作家之一。 【例2】As in Great Britain，American children hang stockings by the fireplace，hoping that Santa will fill them with candy and toys。 译文：和英国一样，美国的孩子们在壁炉边挂长袜，希望圣诞老人用糖果和玩具把它们塞满。 【例3】We hope the measures to control prices，as they have been taken by the government，will succeed。 译文：我们希望，政应已经采取的控制物价的措施将取得成功。（特殊翻译，as在句中引导方式状语从句） 【例4】Just as water is the most important of liquids，so air is the most important of gases。 译文：空气是气体中最重要的一种，正如水是液体中最重要的一种一样。 【例5】Try as you may，youll not succeed if your method is not suitable。 译文：如果你的方法不正确，不管怎么努力，你也不会成功的。 二、与than搭配的短语或结构的翻译 与than搭配的短语或结构也很多，在绝大多数情况下，than是作为连词使用的。与than搭配的短语或结构通常有： （1）else／other than：除……之外 （2）nothing else than／but：相当于nothing but，意为“只，只有” （3）nothing if not：极其 （4）would／had rather／sooner…than：宁愿……也不…… （5）no sooner…than…：一……就…… （6）no more than：仅仅，只是 （7）no less than：简直是，实在是 （8）no／none other than：正是，就是 （9）no more…than…／not any more…than：和……一样都不 （10）not more…than…：和……相比没有（不及）…… （11）more…than…：与其……不如 （12）not more than：至多，不超过 （13）know better than to do sth。：很明白而不至于…… 下面举例说明： 【例1】What he did was nothing else than a practical joke。 译文：他干的事简直是恶作剧。 【例2】He would rather die than yield。 译文：他宁死不屈。 【例3】No sooner had he got off the train than his daughter ran towards him。 译文：他刚一下车，女儿就跑了过来。 【例4】The heart is no more intelligent than the stomach，for they are both controlled by the brain。（1993年考研试题） 译文：心脏和胃一样都无智力可言，因为它们都是由大脑控制的。 【例5】It seems，then，that these two branches of science are mutually dependent and interacting，and that the socalled division between the pure scientist and the applied scientist is more apparent than real。 译文：看来，这两门科学是互相依存，又互相制约的，因而理论科学家和应用科学家之间的所谓区别，与其说是实际存在的，不如说是表面的。 【例6】He didnt know anyone at the wedding other than the bride and groom。 译文：除了新娘和新郎之外，他不认识婚礼上的任何其他人。 【例7】He is none other than the man I met in Los Angeles five years ago。 译文：他正是五年前我在洛杉矶见到过的那个人。 【例8】You should have known better than to make such a ridiculous mistake。 译文：你早该明白的话就不会犯这样荒唐的错误了。 三、与but搭配的短语和结构的翻译 but在英语中也是一个很活跃的词，它可以用作连词、介词、副词，甚至可以作为关系代词和动词使用。如：But me no buts。（别老是跟我说“但是，但是”了。）在这个句子中，前面的but是及物动词，后面的but是名词。而but与其他词的搭配有时也很难理解，下面我们介绍一些与but经常搭配的短语和结构。 （1）not only…but also…：不但……而且…… （2）not that…but that…：不是因为……，而是因为……；不是说……，而是说…… （3）but that…：要不是…… （4）but for…：要不是…… （5）but then…：但另一方面 （6）cannot help but do sth。：不得不…… （7）cannot choose but do sth。：不得不…… （8）have no choice／alternative but to do…：不得不 （9）there is nothing for…but to do sth。：除了……别无他法 （10）nothing but…：除了……之外没有……；不过是……；仅仅是…… （11）anything but…：完全（绝对）不是……；一点也不…… （12）all but…：几乎；除……之外其余都（=all except） 举例说明： 【例1】I never go past that house but I think of my miserable life in the old society。 译文：我走过那所房子时，没有一次不想起我在旧社会中所过的悲惨生活。 【例2】 The little girl would have fallen into the river but that the brave young man caught her。 译文：要不是那个勇敢的年轻人拉住，小女孩就掉到河里去了。 【例3】 Alone in a deserted house，he was so busy with his research work that he felt anything but lonely。（1990年考研试题） 译 责任编辑:zhaotingting 相关新闻
